In a significant achievement against militancy, Pakistan army successfully eliminated 13 Indian-backed terrorists during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in the Dera Ismail Khan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed on Wednesday.

The operation was conducted in the Daraban area of DI Khan, following credible intelligence about the presence of terrorists affiliated with Indian proxies and extremist networks. Troops swiftly engaged the militants’ hideouts, resulting in the elimination of more than a dozen terrorists.

Weapons and Ammunition Seized

According to ISPR, a large cache of weapons and ammunition was recovered from the killed terrorists. The militants had been actively involved in carrying out terrorist attacks, kidnappings, and target killings of civilians and government officials in the region.

The statement also revealed that the terrorists facilitated a suicide bombing attack in Daraban in December 2023, which claimed innocent lives.

Pakistan’s Resolve Against Terrorism

A sanitization operation was also carried out to ensure no other threats remained in the area. The ISPR emphasized that the Pakistan Army remains fully committed to eradicating terrorism, especially those fueled by foreign sponsorship.

“Pakistanarmy are determined to wipe out the menace of Indian-sponsored terrorism from our soil,” the statement reaffirmed.

Rising Terror Threat in Pakistan

Pakistan has been grappling with a surge in cross-border terror incidents since the Taliban takeover in Afghanistan in 2021. The border provinces of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan have witnessed most of these attacks.

According to the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS), militant incidents increased by 74% in August 2025 compared to July, with 194 fatalities reported in a single month.

Government’s Stance on Terrorism

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reiterated Pakistan’s firm stance, stressing that there will be “zero tolerance” for terrorism. He urged Afghanistan to take a clear position, either by supporting peace and regional stability or siding with terrorist groups operating from its soil.

Pakistan has long hosted Afghan refugees, but concerns over cross-border militancy have grown in recent years. Security agencies believe that many terror masterminds and facilitators are operating from Afghanistan with Indian backing, posing a serious threat to Pakistan’s security.

Regional and International Concerns

The United Nations Security Council’s Analytical Support and Sanctions Monitoring Team has also confirmed Pakistan’s concerns, highlighting a nexus between the Taliban regime in Kabul and the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), including financial and operational support.

With terrorism once again threatening national and regional peace, Pakistan army continue to stand resolute in their mission to safeguard the country from external and internal threats.
